Payroll & Accounting Assistant
Barrington Orthopedic Specialists is looking for a full-time employee to work as our Payroll & Accounting Assistant. This position would be in our Schaumburg location.
We are looking for a qualified Payroll & Accounting assistant to process payroll for the organization in a timely and accurate manner and to assist the Bookkeeper with processing accounts payables. The ideal candidate will be a thorough professional with good communication abilities and has great understanding of the concept of confidentiality. You will be experienced in entering data with attention to detail and will have good mathematical skills.
Job Responsibilities
Payroll:
- Maintains payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data for 180+ employees.
- Prepare and enter payroll transactions (deductions, bonuses, PTO payouts, salary adjustments, retroactive wages, garnishments)
- Process tax withholding elections/changes and direct deposit changes
- Performs the distribution of wages through issuance of paper checks or direct transfers to employees’ bank accounts.
- Answers staff questions about wages, deductions, and time records
- Review all employee’s timesheet for accuracy and identifies and resolves discrepancies on timesheet and payroll records.
- Review all staff lunch punches per pay period and distribute lunch reminder emails to staff, as applicable.
- Adheres to payroll policies and procedures and complies with relevant laws.
- Assist with Affordable Care Act Tracking and Processing of 1095-Cs
- Prepare statistical and compensation reports as requested.
- Honors confidentiality of all employees’ pay records maintaining privacy for every employee.
Accounting:
- Assist accounts payables with scanning and miscellaneous reconciliation tasks.
Scheduled Hours
Full-time 40 hours a week Monday through Friday.
Job Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Accounting and Bookkeeping skills
- Superior computer and typing skills, data entry skills, and attention to detail.
- Excellent mathematical skills
- Good verbal communication with employees
- Familiar with Payroll Software
- Basic understanding of tax procedures
- Familiarity with benefits and other wage deductions
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize daily activities.
- Must be able to work on a deadline.
Experience
- 1-2 years of experience in processing payroll required.
- 2-3 years of experience in business office environment preferred.
- Paylocity - HR and Time Keeping system experience - A PLUS.
- QuickBooks experience - A PLUS
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration and/or Accounting required or 5+ years of equivalent years of experience in payroll.
